Puzzling Programs

For most brides, their wedding programs are an afterthought. Something that's thrown together at the last minute, once all the little details have been confirmed with their church, and the end product isn't original and its usually tossed the second the guest leaves the ceremony. Why not come up with a fun and creative idea to add something memorable to your program? This bride and groom had a wedding themed crossword puzzle printed on the back of their program!

Fun with Fonts

I love playing around with fonts when creating invitations. They add a little pizazz to your invites, the right amount of whimsy, fun or goofiness can let guest know what they are in for! When I work on wedding invitations, I try to stick with two fonts, any more than that and it just becomes too chaotic.

One of my favorite free font websites is www.fontfreak.com, you are able to browse through thousands of fonts and download them for free! Sometimes the perfect font can set the stage for a whole event!

How fun is this color combination?! It takes two of the best colors and throws them together in unpredictable fabulousness!! Red, hello, it stands for everything romantic, and when I see aqua, it makes me think of Tiffany's, home of a girls best friend! When planning your wedding, try out different color combinations and see what you come up with. Something might sound totally weird in your head, but when you start putting together flowers and dresses and invites, it all magically comes together! One of my favorite holidays is just around the corner, it's the best day for hopeless romantics like myself, its Valentine's Day! About 99% of the population believes it's only a Hallmark holiday, created for the card companies to make some extra cash during the winter months. But to me, it's a day that was made for lovahhhhs and saps like yours truly! =) It's the most romantic day to get married, engaged or host a sweetheart dinner, there are so many fun and creative ways to design your invitations, decorate and bake...hello, red velvet! Escort Cards

Escort cards are usually an afterthought for brides. You are so worried about flowers, decor and dresses that when it comes to escort cards, you just plum forgot about them! They can be such a fun addition to a wedding, you can tie in an accent color, a theme or even a design element you are using throughout your wedding. One of my favorite ideas is to combine the wedding favor with the escort card; tie a guests name to the stem of a piece of fruit or a beautiful votive candle holder that will end up adding ambiance to your reception, as guests file into the ballroom, their lit candles will add romantic lighting! One of my favorite trends right now is the wrap around address label; Ive used this on graduation party invites for my husband as well as Halloween party invites. Its such a creative and easy way of doing address labels, it adds just the right touch to your invite! When you are thinking about party or wedding invitations, the envelopes and address labels are usually an afterthought, but using a wrap around label, you add a fun design element that Im sure even the postman will admire!

All That Shimmers...

I've always been drawn to sparkly things, if my house could be covered in glitter and rhinestones, I would be happy as a clam. Obviously Im not going to do that, so I take that love for fantasy and glam and put it towards my creations. I always like to suggest that brides or party planners amp up their invites by using a opalescent or metallic paper, something so subtle can add that wow factor you are looking for.

I recently worked on a wedding for a couple getting married on New Years Eve (tomorrow!!). They originally had started out with gray paper, which was beautiful...for any other wedding. But if you are getting married on one of the biggest party days of the year, you need something fun and festive! They eventually chose a beautiful diamond white opalescent cardstock for their invite and paired it with a metallic magenta pocket fold. It was the perfect paper to set the stage for the most memorable and fun day in their lives!

When you start looking at and creating your invitations think about little things like paper or pretty brads, ribbons and even stickers or embellishments that can bring your invitation to the next level. Even if its subtle, you can play with that shade or metallic accent at your wedding and reception by wearing fun glittery shoes or using gold or sliver chiavari chairs, the possibilities are endless! Unless you want to paint the church with glitter and rhinestones...

Im at the time in my life between the first round of weddings and the second...what happens during that lull? Oh yes, the marrieds from the first wave, get pregnant. I am happy to say one of my nearest and dearest from college is expecting a bouncing baby girl in March, and I was asked to co-host her baby shower with her fashionably fabulous younger sister. My mission for this week is to create a beautifully simple baby shower invite that will set the tone for this once in a lifetime day.

In my mind, when creating invitations for such a special day, I don't crowd the page with illustrations of baby animals or bottles and diapers. If this is something that will be cherished forever in a baby book, you want it to speak of the trends of the time, but not overdo it. For my friends baby shower we are going with the "Love Comes Softly" theme from Hostess With The Mostess, Its clean, romantic and won't look like Babies r Us threw up in the living room, and the invitation will carry the theme perfectly.

Sunday, February 14th - The most romantic day of the year
Friday, May 28th - Monday, May 31st - Memorial Day weekend

When you first start thinking about your wedding invitations, the maps are probably the last thing on your mind. In fact, in quite a few invites, Ive actually received black and white copies from the internet...it doesn't really go with the theme you are striving to set for your wedding. One thing I love creating for brides, is a custom, personalized map that coordinates with the invitations as well as the overall wedding theme. When creating the maps, I usually like to include a few local landmarks, sometimes even locations special to the couple; where you got engaged, your first date, etc. Something so simple, like a map, can help set the mood to your special day.

Christmas is just around the corner and for the first time ever I created my own card! We always attempt to get our pets in the picture, and we always fail; from Gilbert (our dog) posing perfectly until our camera hit 9 seconds (on a 10 second timer) to Linus (one of our cats) using Bobs chest as a springboard to launch himself halfway across the room. Christmas card pictures are always fun to take in our house, but we never seem to get all the pets organized. Here's the finished product (outtakes will be uploaded soon!)
